Adapalene (Differin®)

This is a designer Retinoid, and its molecular make-up is similar to that of vitamin A.
How Do I Use This Acne Medication?

* Apply to the whole area that is affected by acne
* Your skin should be dry when you apply it
* It can be used once or twice a day, or as directed by your doctor
* It is stable in sunlight so you can use it in the daytime
* Do not use if you are pregnant, or if you have eczema

How Well Does It Work?

The exact mechanism is not known. However, we do know that it works against comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), and also acts to reduce inflammation. You should see some improvement in 8-12 weeks.
Will There Be Side Effects?

* Some experts suggest that it is less irritating than other retinoids
* You may experience burning and redness on your skin as well as some drying
* Your acne may flare before it starts to improve
* Your skin will be more sensitive to sun, wind and cold

Suggestions to reduce side effects:

* Apply only a small quantity
* Make sure your skin is dry
* Use a gentle skin cleanser
* Use light skin moisturizers
* Use sunscreen

Can I Take Other Medications?

There are no known interactions, but you should take care when using this product with other drying products or when using with other photosensitizing drugs.
